2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer
June 4 - 5, 2005
“No Ordinary Walk in the Park!!”

The West Islip Breast Cancer coalition
for Long Island was privileged to be invited to participate
in the 2nd Annual LI 2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer.
The Long Island 2 Day Walk was organized to raise awareness
and funding for the fight against breast cancer on Long
Island. The proceeds raised are distributed to grassroots
service organizations so ALL funds reach members of the
Long Island community affected by breast cancer. Listed
below are some of the Walk's Statistics. They speak for
them selves. If you are thinking of volunteering, you
will find a lot of information about the walk at: www.libreastcancerwalk.org.
You may register electronically to be a volunteer, crew
person, or walker for next year's Walk (June 3-4, 2006).

Mile 2 Day Walk - June 2005:

WIBCC was one of 14 Beneficiary Organizations
who worked together towards one common goal. To view

Over $330,000 raised plus $25,000
additional for the LI2Day First Annual Golf Outing.

All monies raised returned to Long
Island Communities as follows:

$25,000 to each of 14 beneficiary
organizations (Note: WIBCC proceeds allocated for
("Lend a Helping Hand')

$25,000 Scholarships awarded
to six High School Seniors whose lives are affected
by Breast Cancer (3 from Suffolk, 3 from Nassau)
-
250 or 300 register walkers walked
-
Breast Cancer Survivors
- Oldest Walker: 76 Years Young; Youngest Walkers: two
12 year olds, seven 16 year olds, seven 17 year olds.
- One Participant completed the 35 miles on a scooter
- 13 men walked (9 of them with their spouses, daughters,
mothers, aunts and cousins)
- One grandmother/granddaughter team walked
- 24 Performing Acts at the Park Locations and Entertainment
at 15 Rest Stops
- 200 pink ribbons on the Smith Point Bridge and another
200 at Cathedral Pines
- 75 port-a-labs for use at the parks and along the route
and bathrooms and hot showers at Cathedral Pines (camp
site)
- 100 Breast Cancer Survivors attended Closing Ceremonies
on Sunday where they received their Pink Shirts and completed
an emotional walk with the Walkers across a Pink Ribboned
Smiths Point Bridge to the final Closing Ceremonies.
